Below is a letter written in 1975 of our future by our Class President, Mark S. McCutcheon.  It is provided for you to enjoy.  Please remember ideas and attitudes were different back then and do not be offended by any of the tongue-in-check humor in this letter.  It was written for fun.  It has been provided to us by Pam Hicks.

Ms. Doyce Houser

Principal of Brewer High School

Florette, Alabama

Dear Ms. Houser,

I was so delighted to receive your letter.  Yes, it has been fifteen years since we graduated from Brewer High School in 1975.  We, as a class, have gone our separate ways, and regrettably, we have lost touch with one another.  The arrival of your letter made me think of  "the good ole days," and so by traveling all over the world, I and others have been able to learn the courses our classmates have followed.

Relaxing in front of the T.V. last night, we were somewhat surprised to see Glenda Chapman and her hair stylist Leo Turner doing an Afro Sheen commercial.  No sooner had we recovered from this shock than we saw a McDonald's commercial starring a singing Sandra Brown.  Not to be out done, the Anita Bryant of Brewer, Kathy Alexander is singing her way to fame on orange juice commercials.  Allen Flemons, head of the new T.V. station WSEX announced on his news program that Mary Scott had won the "Lucille Ball Look Alike" contest sponsored by the Ted Mack Amateur Hour.  Brian Martin has replaced Brian Keith on "Family Affair."  Steve Turney is the star of his own show "Turney's Twilight Talk Show."  Faces we were not surprised to see on the T.V. screen were Melissa Brown and Jeff Kempson and Debra Ozbolt and Michael Cryer on the Divorce Game.  Even less shocking were the "Hee Haw's" new sex symbols - Brenda Stinson, Vickie Vest, and Vickie Hopkins.

Brewer graduates have not ignored radio, either.  Danny Morgan is the announcer for WBHS radio with Dale Bishop as his news commentator.

News of our 1975 lovelies has been put down in black and white.  Recent newspaper headlines of the Decatur Daily, edited by Debbie Helms and delivered by professional paper carrier Greg Day, stated that Patricia Rice was first-runner up and Deborah Burton was second runner-up in the Mrs. Afro Queen Contest.  Legina Jenkins recently won the title of Mrs. Middle-Age America.

In the world of motion pictures, we saw Angie Goree starring in "The Nun's Story" and Arvil Bailey in the popular film "Little Caesar".  We were rather surprised to see Jackie Borden, owner of Borden's Big Boy Circus, and his famed belly dancers -- Carolyn Gulledge, Gina Scott, Emily Osborne, and Charlotte Lemley -- in the movie "Circus Life".

Besides recognition in Hollywood, many of our graduates have received fame in athletics.  In the recent 1990 Olympics, Donnie Grantland, Hershel Tony, and Terry Brown, received gold medals for their wrestling prowess.  Also in the Olympics, Michael Oden earned the name of the "500 Pound Jerk" with David Bell close behind as the "400 Pound Jerk".  In the Track and Field events, Debbie Blackwood set an indoor track record for the 100-yard dash.  While watching the gymnastics team, we were surprised to learn that Sharon Richards is the now coaching the United States Gymnastics Team, replacing Debbie Bishop, now coaching Wineb's Track.  In the coffee shop, we spoke to Karen McQuiston, demonstrator for the U. S. Karate Club.

In the area of professional ball, Brewer High graduates have excelled.  Jody White is running back for the Miami Dolphins; Darrell Stevens, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons; and Kenny Holmes, linebacker for the Pittsburg Steelers.  In the NBA, we learned that the New York Knicks had acquired guard Charlie Burton and center Danny Dumas for the new season.  Also new for the season is Knicks' coach Deborah Brenner.  Third baseman Lonnie Turney and hind catcher Bobby Douthit are enjoying fame while playing for the New York Yankees.

Perhaps you remember William Thomas, now Featherweight Champion of the World.  At a recent speedway, we also caught a glimpse of Gary Blankenship, stunt car driver; Johnny Campbell, super stock car racer; and Billy Van Johnson, winner of the 1989 "Indianapolis 500".

Also in the national limelight, several of our graduates have achieved acclaim in the world as accomplished musicians.  Seen performing in Rockefeller Center last month was Webb Hendrix, conducting trumpet players Richard Dobbs and Keith Thompson in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra where Thomas Johnston and Ricky Lowe also play.  Perhaps you have already heard Phillip Rolfe conducting the Boston Pops Symphony.  Accompanying the "Pops" on tour is Rhonda Stitcher, Female Vocalist of the Year.

In addition to touring musicians, Brewer has also produced some traveling physicians.  Dr. Ronnie Holmes, chief neurosurgeon at Mayo Clinic, is presently on lecture tour for the American Medical Association; staying behind in New York is psychiatrist Terry Lott, mending those minds damaged under the scalpel of Dr. Holmes.  Also at Mayo Clinic in research are Drs. Steve Hudson and Luke Hoffman, co-discoverers of a serum for the common cold.  In Decatur, we learned that Dr Randy Maddox, pediatrician, has recently hired Shelia Wilbourn as nurse and Diane Lafarlett as pharmacist of the new Medical Center Complex.

The business world has been greatly enriched by the seniors of '75.  Ray Wright is the new manager of Sears in the Punkin Center Shopping Center, where Regina Griffin is waterbed dealer.  This center also includes such exclusive stores as Michael Blevins' Baggy Britches Barn.  We learned that Willis Bailey has established a nudist colony, designed by Jeff Ryan, in Upper Punkin Center.  Two miles down from the nudist colony, we found Coy Chambers' Stillery.  After we "gassed" ourselves up at Coy's, we gassed our cars up at David Montgomery's Texaco station, next door to Barney Hoe Handle's Funny Farm, owned and operated by Randy Caudle.  In Eva, we learned of the first recreational campgrounds, supervised by Ricky Frost and Gary Blackwood.  Their slogan is "Bring your own tents, blankets, and booze".

In the restaurant business, local citizens recommend Joe Wingo's Wonderful Wavaho Wampum, specializing in authentic Indian dog burgers.  Bonnie Hardiman and Rita Houser have been promoted to chief squaw waitresses at the Wampum.  Another thriving business is Michael Patrick’s Pepperoni Pizza Parlor, which is next door to Busbey's Birthday Bakery, owned by Pat Busbey and Pat Brown.  Scott Wood is chief crumb snatcher, and Ricky Wilhoite is the primary dishwasher.

Along the more qesque lines, we stumbled into Playboy Bunny Kay Oden.  Down the stream from the Bunny Club, we located Darling Debbie's Cat Parlor, Debbie Watson's business enterprise.  On her payroll is cat rescuer Dwight Edwards.

Continuing in our investigation of business careers, we learned that Sherry Thomas and Debbie Vining, fashion designers for Paul Newman, have shocked the clothing industry.  Also in the world of clothing is Judy Watkins, very personal tailor for Robert Redford.  Jada Thomas assists Judy.

Nancy Champion and Betty Jo Blankenship run a child care center for the children of Joy Thompson, Artie East, Kathy Eddleman, Patty Farris, Loretta Halbrooks, Roxanne Wilson, Nada Hopper, Brenda Lewis, Sheri McSpadden, Darlene Roberts, and Brenda Pollard, each of whom supplied at least four little brats.

Several of our girls went straight from B.O.E to the boss's knee -- Diane McGee is secretary for Pogo' Poker Place; Janice Yancey, Lynette Weaver, and Belinda Carter run an agency for placing secretaries for jobs; Kathy Slaten and Shelby Grant are court reporters; Susan Holcomb works for Senator Allen in Congress; and Pam Hicks is secretary of Tippy Toe Shoe Factory.

In the world of architecture, Jeff Allen and Shane Brock design motel rooms for Holiday Inn.  The aim to please.  Draftsmen for Tilly and Sons, Inc., are Earl Whisenant and Terry McDearmond.

Betty Jo Dodson certainly has her hands full as chief milkier at Dodson's Dairy Delight.  Shirley Drinkard raises boneless chickens for Kentucky Fried Chicken.  Jennings Genuine Snake Pit is owned by none other than Anthony Jennings.

All of Paula Varden's horsing around had finally paid off; she recently won the title of Southeastern Rodeo Queen.  Another silly filly, Cathy Hamilton, trains horses at Hamilton's Happy Horsery.

A few of our graduates have become religious in their professions.  Linda Miner's voice was recognized on the radio as that of "The Singing Nun".  David Alexander is presently on furlough from serving on the mission field in Siberia.  Although not exactly a religious habitat, Dominican monk Gary Smith has established a rather unique monastery in Underground Atlanta.  In the basement of his parish is a gambling casino, operated by Joel Parker.

Such gambling casinos may soon be extinguished in Alabama where Wayne Jackson, with Amy Abercrombie and Theresa Irvin as his personal secretaries, has been elected governor.  Also on the Governor's Staff is Attorney General Albert Ryan and Don Jones, custodian for the Governor's lawn.  On the local level of government are Janet Garner, Florette probation officer, and Kathryn Thomas, jail warden; Chris Hart serves the community of Somerville as sheriff.  In Cotaco, Sheriff Tommy Matkin and Mayor Barry McAnally are trying to break the crime circuit.  Willie Long is upholding his political responsibilities as mayor of Priceville along with Dennis Holmes, his chief councilman, and Georgiann Matzkanin, warden of the Priceville Penn.

The military services have been greatly enriched by Denise Livingston, who is a lieutenant in the army.  Ronald Loney and Tony Riley are the brave four-star generals to serve their country.  Tony Maxwell is busy raising his own little recruits.

In addition to the military, many of our seniors have entered the teaching profession.  Several have come back to BHS:  Loretta Brooks teaches trig; Deborah Flack teaches Spanish; Rita Eubanks, clothing; Mike Prince, ag; and Sue Blevins, Betty Wheeler, Sarah Widener, and Kay Wiley, B.O.E.  In the principal's seat at Union Hill Elementary is Noma Henderson.  At 8:00 on T.V. every morning, we may see Katherine Jones and Luveania Jones on "Ding Dong School".  Coaching the Debate Team at Auburn are Gary Cloer and Bill Coffman.  Perhaps a bit unusual, we found Troy Stewart studying the sex life of Nigerian Pygmies.

Some seniors have been overwhelmingly successful.  Our own Tim Kinney is the chief landscaper for the White House Lawn, and Scott Hale is the new president of Standard Oil.  Kay Dunaway and Therese Wozny were awarded the Pulitzer Prize in Literature for their best seller Lola, Lady of the Evening.  Corrine Thomas is the millionairess of Revlon Cosmetics, and Carmon Freeman is the sexy new editor of Cosmopolitan.  Billy Paul Johnson drives Greyhound buses.  His most frequent trip is to the Grand Canyon, where Sondra Couch is his guide.  Jeff Landers and Cindy Simpson can be found at their drawing board, for their are famous cartoonist for the New Yorker.

However, some seniors have not been so fortunate in pursuing their careers.  Poor Joe Hattery is a ragged beachcomber on Daytona Beach; and we heard Ray Willoughby, Bobby Helms and Bruce Shaw were last seen sleeping in a railroad car headed for Chicago.  Ronnie Walker was recognized roaming the streets of San Francisco at all hours of the night, and Alfonzo Romine was seen peddling popsicles in New Orleans.  Harold Fowler and Randall Blevins are junk dealers in Tucson, where that good-for-nothing Robert Short owns a yard-rolling agency.  Joe Whorton and Chuck Hanvey were seen selling religious tracks outside a theater in Phoenix.

Alas, we hate to report that some of our seniors make their livings dishonestly.  Ralph Goodson has earned the notorious nickname of "Pretty Boy Floyd" in the Mafia, and Valerie Teague and Jimmy Owens have become a twentieth century Bonnie and Clyde.  Hal "Fuzzy" Marsh was convicted for burglarizing Florette's new U-Totem.  Seen on a wanted poster was a mug shot of Randy "Bird Man of Alcatraz" Thomas.  Grant Humphries and Mike Widener were recently arrested for spying for the S.L.A.  Ralph Manous is a pool hustler at Manous Merry Pool Hall.

In conclusion, I wish to congratulate you on your new position as principal of our Alma Mater.  All of us who can will certainly attend our 1975 Class Reunion.  Remember our motto:  "Then moment may be temporary, but the memory is forever".  This reunion will not only remind us of the past memories and friendships, but also create new memories and friendships to last forever.  We are all looking forward to seeing you again.

                                                                    Sincerely,
